The Application Process is Closed…So What’s Next?

The application process has now closed for the 2014-15 Ottawa Makeover Project…and now the hard work begins for the Ottawa Makeover Project Team!

We will spend the next few days reviewing all of the applications, and getting to know the candidates from their application summary and videos. Over the last number of weeks, we have heard from so many wonderful, inspiring people all looking for expert advice on becoming the best possible version of themselves. Not surprisingly, what we hear most often is the struggle we all encounter in trying to “do it all” and still make time to take care of “number one”!

Our entire team will be meeting very soon to review our amazing candidates, but then we will have to choose JUST ONE PERSON…a task that is very difficult, as each one of our applicants is deserving and we all want to help every single one of them! We thank you for your patience while we do this, and we do promise to contact every applicant by the end of this month to let you know of our decision.

Please do join our 2014-15 Recipient during his or her six month journey with the Ottawa Makeover Project. Updates will be posted on our social media channels including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter so, if you aren’t following us yet, now is the time to start. The person we choose needs YOUR support, as well as ours, to be successful in reaching his/her goals.

Thank you!

Why I Choose the Ottawa Makeover Project

Having met Dr. Andrea Stevens and listened to her passion for this initiative, getting involved in the Ottawa Makeover Project in 2013 was an easy decision for me – and for my team. The idea that we might – through what we do each day – provide some financial guidance that leads someone to a better, securer and more fulfilling path, is what drives our commitment.

But, I will admit, returning to the project in 2014 was a slightly more selfish choice. You see, in becoming involved with this project, I have expanded my circle of influence – both personally and professionally – to include an amazing group of caring, community-minded, and thoroughly energizing individuals.  The Ottawa Makeover Project partners, myself included, each share in the idea that we can provide something positive to the Project recipient – and the Project recipient is no slouch either. Last year’s recipient, Johanne Kenney, went above and beyond anything we could have expected and I am happy now to be able to call her a friend. It was our role to motivate and support her but she has become a force of inspiration for which we are all thankful.

Our 2014 recipient has big shoes to fill but I can guarantee that whomever that lucky person may be, we are all looking forward to meeting him or her and learning as much from him/her as he/she will from us.

I Love Success Stories

Don’t you love those “Where are they now?” television shows that look back at makeovers? Don’t you love to see that a once disorganized hoarder living in squalor has maintained their new home decor? Or that a frumpy housewife has kept up her sassy and glamourous new look?

I joined the Ottawa Makeover Project because I want to help the recipient make this a whole life makeover that lasts, not only to look good on the outside six months from now, but also to have a fulfilled, purpose driven, and happy life moving forward for years to come.

We are a team, all of us on the Ottawa Makeover Project, because each piece of this makeover puzzle is essential. The recipient needs to feel well and able in their body to focus on a full life. They also need the boost of self-esteem from a gorgeous smile, face and hair. They need to have their worries and stress addressed by finances and estate planning. And once this is rolling, we can then move on to maintaining and sustain the life they want.

I strongly believe that we all need to address four foundational aspects of our life to find happiness: Our Body, Our Mindset, Our Boundaries and Our Spirit or Life Purpose. By addressing these parts of our lives and thriving in them, we are then resilient enough to face whatever life throws at us… because ultimately life does eventually present some bumps in the road. This is the gift I want to give to the recipient of the Ottawa Makeover Project, the gift of Preventative Resilience, the gift of lifelong happiness.

Best of luck to all the applicants!
I cannot wait to roll up my sleeves and help the recipient to turn their life around.

The Ottawa Makeover Project: A beautiful opportunity to change someone’s life

A wise man once said; I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

More to that….we are each on a journey, everyone on their own path, but some have been more difficult then others. This is not to say that any one person deserves a helping hand more then another but this is a fun way to get involved and help to blossom someone’s life.

Most of us know what it is like to feel less then confident, less then beautiful. Maybe we pull sweaters over our bodies, or cover our mouths with our hands while we laugh, or feel financial pressures that are equally as embarrassing.

This is one way we give back; to help someone walk out their front door with a little more bounce in their step.

What is the Ottawa Makeover Project?

Andrea 2013

What do you know about the Ottawa Makeover Project? You’ve probably heard about us on the radio or television, followed us on Facebook or Twitter…and you think “this isn’t for real” or “they wouldn’t pick me!” I’m here to tell you…it IS real, and you might be JUST the person we are looking for!

The Ottawa Makeover Project is made of a group of business owners who all do what we do to help people improve their lives every single day. I am profoundly grateful to offer an opportunity for a healthy and beautiful smile to each and every one of my patients. Often, as I’ve finished a smile makeover, my patient will say something like “I love my new smile, now I just wish I knew how to get rid of these last 20 pounds…I wish I knew how to get rid of the bags under my eyes…I wish I knew what to do with my hair…” I started organizing this team of professionals for this project just so YOU can have it all!

This project is not a “basket of goodies” that we hand you and then walk away. It is an opportunity for the right person, the one who really wants to make a significant life change, to have support from a group of talented professionals over a six month period of time to reach goals. If you are selected, you will receive:

  • One-on-one personal training to improve your fitness, three times a week for six months packaged with dietary counselling and massage therapy can help you achieve your fitness goals.
  • Recommendations about managing your money to help make ends meet as well as planning for your future come along with an iPad to manage your financial health.
  • Life coaching will help remove whatever is blocking you from achieving success and emotional health in your life.
  • Sags, bags, wrinkles, discolorations can be minimized for a healthier skin or body appearance.
  • The smile you were meant to have is just around the corner.
  • Planning for you future with a complete Wills and Estates plan for you and your partner.
  • The finishing touch with six months of spa treatments and a new look for hair and makeup awaits as well.

We ask for a video with your application because this gives an opportunity for us to “meet you” in a way that reading about you just doesn’t provide. We want to see your spark, what makes you special, to help us select just the right person for this project. The person we choose needs to be open and willing to make this life change and use this “gift” to its fullest for the entire length of the project. Once the Project gets underway in November, we continue to video the Participant so that others can see that change IS possible for regular people just like YOU.

Each of the business owners donates countless hours over the six months of time of this Project, and what we’ve learned is this…it feels AMAZING to GIVE! The application is easy, the video can be made on that phone in your pocket in a matter of minutes…and your opportunity for this year ends VERY soon. We hope when you read this, you will decide this is the year to become your best you, beauty inside and out…and apply. We would love to meet you!

Apply now – the application deadline is Monday, October 13th.

Your Season of Change Can Start Right Now

Guest Blogger Johanne Kenney is the 2013 recipient of The Ottawa Makeover Project – follow her ongoing adventures on Twitter: @NPJo

Autumn is a season of change. Experiencing summer gently give way to fall signals a reminder that before we know it, many will be cocooned in heavy snow gear seeking comfort food and denying ourselves the joy of playing outside. We will be adding layer after layer of clothes, a symbolic gesture of hibernation that doesn’t always stop at fabric. In Ottawa, the cold winter months can be excuses for not exercising outdoors, or for eating high calorie comfort foods (who is going to see our bodies under all this wool?).

Last fall, I chose to apply to The Ottawa Makeover Project so that I could embrace the changing of the season, and evolve with it. Instead of hibernating, I wanted to peel away the layers of habit and complacency and see if I could discover my best self. The thought of having support in that journey was what motivated me to apply. I felt that, if I just APPLIED, it could be a catalyst of change. Breaking that mental barrier that we often build, that stops us from experiencing change, was the first step. I didn’t expect to be chosen. I just wanted to make a promise to myself that this would be a true season of CHANGE.

When I learned that I was chosen to participate I was shocked! I couldn’t believe something that incredible could happen to anyone. I began to have appointments to meet with the makeover providers one by one. In meeting with them I realized that my quest for change really could be realized with their support! These were REAL people and services right here in my community, talented makeover partners that could help polish my potential for self-improvement.

It is serendipitous that the project starts during a season of change, a season of gratitude. Until midnight October 13th, Thanksgiving Monday, you have a chance to submit your application to The Ottawa Makeover Project. You can make a promise to yourself that by applying, you are ready to accept change in your life. Or, you can make a promise to someone else, by nominating them, that you believe in their capacity for change. The project partners are genuinely good people who want to be a part of something big. This isn’t too good to be true. It’s all the changes you’ve always wanted to make in your life, kick started. In a six month period of time, you will be given the education and tools you need to create YOUR season of change. Why not give them a chance to meet you? Apply to the before the deadline. On Thanksgiving Day, be grateful for having the courage to want to be the very best you! A year later, I remain grateful for taking this opportunity, and I can’t wait to watch YOUR journey!
